Digital Manipulation (1190)
When I started Photography it was all very simple, but now that digital and new software has arrived it has caused many arguments and caused problems in many circlesof photography. I for one was on the side of "Digital Manipulation" is not photography. Yes I said so true !!
Success Pointers for Winning Photo (9972)
A lot of my first photos that I entered, never really got good ratings, to no ratings at all. But over time, I looked, listened, observed winning photos and practiced in all the areas in which I was lacking, and believe me there were lots. Below, I have listed some of the things I have learned here on this forum and I would like to pass some of them on to you, and hope you fine them useful.
Street Photography (0)
Street Photography is in a class of its own-Normally accepted rules for photography do not apply. The only true quality to be judged is whether the image has impact-Does the image evoke any emotion to the viewer? Does it make them want to laugh/cry/smile, or does it shock them?
Photos of the month - The Rider (0)
I live in a town in Southern California that has more horses than people - 27,000 people and 35,000 horses. You'd think I'd have more equestrian photos than I do. It wasn't until recently that I started photographing the obvious. Phil is a friend of mine but I hadn't thought of asking him to let me shot some pictures until recently. Finally our schedules worked out so that we could get together for a really good photo session.
See What I See? (0)
As Rachel walked the short distance to her father's studio, the memories came flooding in. Don't ever go in there, I have some very expensive equipment and if you break any of it, I'll break your behind?, her father would say. Even though her father had died seven months earlier, his words were still just as strong.
Photoshop Tutorial - Sharpness (0)
The Sharpness Editor gives you control over sharpness and focus and is the first and only sharpener that does not create halos or contrours. It has several unique photo sharpening methods that all take sharpness beyond common unsharp mask. You also get anti-aliasing and our unique soft threshold plus controls to target focus, sharpening or blur to specific colors, a brightnesses range or edges only.
Best Use Of Digital Camera (0)
If you let the camera do all the work automatically, ( PHD - Press here, Dummy | ) This is taking a photo. On the other hand, when you take control of how the camera sees the subject, this is making a photo - Being creative.
Photographing Flamingo (0)
I took this at the Adelaide Zoo. The Flamingo Pond has been in the same spot for around 100 years. There is a wall at the back which has waterfall suppling water to the pond. There is a huge tree to the left hand side. I have took several photos in different light conditions before I settled for the late afternoon where the tree and wall make it quite dark but I can still get a good reflection on the ponds surface.
Photographing Big Cats (0)
When your out at a Zoo or conservation park zooming your camera in on a Big Cat be it a Lion or a Tiger or any of the big cats, Spare a thought on your subjects plight; For instance, if your photographing a Tiger - Is it just a tiger to you ? We all know Tigers are rare but how rare is your one ? the one your looking at ?
Photoshop Plug-In Tutorial - Radial Density (0)
Get even exposure from center to corner through out the photo. At last a tool to give you even radial exposure and brightness (density) in your digital photography. Most lenses, all home digital cameras and all photos taken with a single flash will produce uneven radial exposure. The example to the right shows a photo taken with flash and - as an example - the hypothetical mask you would need to correct it with in a darkroom.
First Photo - Changed My View Of The World (0)
I have never liked photogrphy at all. I had an old polaroid camera as a teenager and took dumb pictures of my brother, dogs and friends. I still have the photos. They still look dumb. In 1974, as a junior in high school, I had a rough time, in my opinion. I finished all of my required courses, even my senior stuff and my mom would not let me get a job anywhere, to get out of school early.
A Photographer's Insights (0)
I am not the best photographer there is, I will be the first to say it and argue with anyone that may say I am (especially my wife). I just thought I would give some personal insights from a self taught photographer so here goes. Bright sun can create unattractive deep shadows on the face. Eliminate the shadows by using your flash to lighten the face.
Night Photography Techniques (5365)
I'd like to say that night photography has a whole new meaning now we have digital because the camera doesnt suffer the limitations of film when having long exposures. When I take night shots i actually use the meter ring in the camera and try and get the camera to focus on infinity on a building so that the shot remains sharp.
Winning Photograph - Weeping Wall Falls (0)
I had stopped in Zion National Park on my way home from my mother's funeral in Colorado to spend a winter's day reflecting on life. In the winter it wasn't too difficult to get a room for the night at the Zion Lodge inside the canyon. I spent the evening taking a few pictures. I was not excited about the lighting that evening. So while my wife rolled over in bed and went back to sleep the next morning I got up early and caught a tram to the weeping wall.
The Photographer - Following A Dream (0)
For me photography came about by accident. At School I was a huge fan of History of Art and Art, and that was about as much interest school held for me. It was apparent at an early age I lacked any talent in the Art front. So as I got older and the exams came, I was left with the choice of Latin or Physics. And it was that which caused me to beg for any altnative. So a day release course was set up for me in Photography.
The genesis of 'Study of a drop' (0)
The origin of the idea goes back on an earlier series of shots which I did on a drop falling out of a water tap. I was really fascinated by this series of pictures I took, but I wanted something more controlled. The idea then dawned upon me to have a shot of a drop that was ready to fall of a leaf or of a stem. But as it wasn't easy to grasp such a scene in real nature, and as I don't see myself getting up early in the morning to look for such a scene, or go out after the rain with my equipment, I had to simulate it in a studio.
Stitched Panorama - Riverside Church (2589)
I was driving home yesterday on the West Side highway in Manhattan, NY when I noticed the sun going down on a very windy and clear day. Then I came up on the 125th St. exit and realized the Grant's Tomb Memorial would be in nice light as would be Rverside Church.
Flower Photography - Diffusing the Light (0)
The "how to" story around my tulip picture is easy to tell. Although being a kind of "allround photographer", I am very much in favour of product shots and stills. The subjects do not move, arrangement of lighting can be done without any hassle ... and they do not complain about wrinkles in their photographed faces. After many years as an amateur photographer, I recently purchased two studio strobes (these inexpensive ones built in China) and a lightcube for product shots.
Ice Photography (0)
Most of the ice photos I've ever seen just miss the mark for me. Even when impressive and technically superb, they generally go for the grand panorama or concentrate on an activity and wind up looking like postcards. Rarely do they reveal anything unexpected or lead you into the earth. Since this last winter was my first with a camera, I decided this was my chance to see if I could use ice to reveal my own aesthetic.
Zoo Photography (0)
Many times I was asked, if it isn't to boring for me to shoot Birds and other animals in a Zoo or respectivly an Animal-Farm. And my short answer is "No, it isn't", but you won't hear the short answer. Finally there are many arguments for Zoo-Photography. My heaviest argument is that I don't disturb an animal in his nature environment.
