I live in a town in Southern California that has more horses than people - 27,000 people and 35,000 horses. You'd think I'd have more equestrian photos than I do. It wasn't until recently that I started photographing the obvious. Phil is a friend of mine but I hadn't thought of asking him to let me shot some pictures until recently. Finally our schedules worked out so that we could get together for a really good photo session.
We have an animal sanctuary near the Santa Ana River where people enjoy riding their horses. This is where we went to shoot. It overlooks the cities of Loma Linda and Chino. It provides some space away from the business and buildings of the city life.
In the summer time I like to start shooting about 6:30 P.M. and shoot until the sun goes down. I really try to work with that rich evening sunlight. I like to try various angles with the natural light to produce different effects. Shooting in RAW allows me to produce rich colors for these eveing shots.
Sometimes we just need to look around where we live. There is always something to photograph.
