First of all, I would like to say Thanks to all of you who voted for this photo that earned me a winning title. I have learned alot about photography since joining this site a few months ago and I just love it here, I visit here just about everyday and enjoy seeing all the beautiful photos that everyone post for the contest.
So, here is the story behind this winning photo, I hope you enjoy it.
While out on one of my daily photo taking runs (thats what I call it) I decided to venture out of my yard and go to my sister-in-laws house and see what she had blooming in her yard. With camera in hand and ready to shoot, I noticed this patch of wildflowers covering one of the privet hedges, and there were many bees and wasp busily gathering pollen and drinking nectar there. I was a little concerned about getting too close to them, being afraid to get stung, but the photographer in me could not pass up the chance to take some photos, no matter how unsafe it could be.
I moved around this hedge following my subjects, bees mostly, taking picture after picture, until I noticed this brightly colored Wasp Moth flying from flower to flower drinking nectar. I was amazed at the beauty of the insect ,which I had never seen before, I don't have any of these Wasp Moths in my yard, I thought.

Well, from then on my camera was focused on this one, and I followed it everywhere it went and took picture after picture of this Scarlet Bodied Wasp Moth, (which I looked it up on the internet to find out the name of it). I took many photos of this one until it decided it drank enough nectar and flew away.
To say the least, that daily photo run was one of my best ones, and I returned home feeling very fulfilled with what I had managed to accomplish that day.
So from now on , I take my camera everywhere I go, cause you never know what will show up when you least expect it, and I want to be ready for those unexpected surprises.
This photo was a little challenging to edit in the digital darkroom, the yellows were too bright and the reds were too dull. I played around with this photo and tried to get the colors looking as best as I could. Yellow flowers are the hardest for me to get the color just right, I really have problems with them.I like the colors of the moth, they came out natural looking, it really is that color. The flowers , well I did the best I could with what I had. I took many shots and angles of this moth, and this is one of my favorite shot.
I'd like to wish everyone a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
