When I first started photographing people for portraits I took my knowledge of landscape photography and just went right into it. WRONG! I found very quickly that people are actually different than trees. I started with my family of course and found quite rapidly that saying "look at me and smile" wasn't going to cut it. Quick and Dirty Sweep - by Jonnyfilmboy

For those of you new to or unfamiliar with studio photography, a "sweep" is any kind of paper that is draped in a quarter circle. Usually you have these two things called autopoles that are like large shower curtain rods with hooks on the middle of them (adjustble for height). They are placed vertically between the ceiling and the floor and another rod is placed horizontally in between these two autopoles, on the hooks. ......

Last winter, I went backpacking in Bangladesh, and stayed for two weeks in the remote village of Panchuria. To get there I took a dilapidated bus from Dhaka for 5 hours, a ferry to cross the mighty Ganges for an hour, another bus on the other side for three hours more, then a three wheeled rickshaw for 16 kilometers, and finally a short walk across yellow fields of mustard to reach the hut of my host. ......
