Submission and Voting

For details on the submission and voting arrangement, and to access the contest galleries, refer to the menu links at the top-left.

Selection Criteria

We believe the best photography should always meet the taste of the majority independent from the voters. Photos-of-the-Year.com adopts open voting approach for the selection of the best photos - all photos will be equally exposures to all official members during the voting process.

The voting result will honestly reflect both the taste by the majority. The result given by the open arrangement implies that the winning photos will always have the best marketing value.

The best photographers should be able not only to create good photos on his own but also to give constructive comments for improving photography. Photos-of-the-Year.com has implemented a dynamic and comprehensive performance indicator - Photography Strength (PS) for the evaluation of the ability of a photographer in creating value photos and giving comments.

Prizes Awarded

Achievement certificates will be issued for Photos of the Year and Photographers of the Year as well as winners for the monthly contests. Prizes donated by sponsors will be also awarded according to the agreed arrangement.

Proven Success Principle & Approach

Discover the Value of Your Photographs - by Robert Och

That means as a winner, you may not have the most technically perfect photo, but more people would buy your photo than the others in the contest. I would rather have a photo that sells more often, than one that is technically perfect that collects dust.......

..... the voting is handled by the majority of members. Members from all walks of life and from all over the world, with one common interest (they love photography). What does that mean to you? By having many members from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds you (as an artist) get a real life critique of your work that reflects the tastes of the masses.

Be a Winner on Photos-of-the-Year.com - by Robert Och

Photos-of-the-Year.com in my opinion has a wonderful and interesting approach to Photography. Winning photos are based on what most people find appealing. Pulling from a world wide base of members, there is no better way to see what appeals to the masses, than on this site......

..... most importantly remember this, the only real winner on Photos-of-the-Year.com is the person that improves the most in their art (you only compete against yourself) and enjoy the journey. I will leave you with this thought. "Your best photo should be your next photo".

Success Pointers for Winning Photo - by Linda Muir

Since I registered as a member on POTY in July of 2003, I have advanced beyond my wildest dreams in the digital photo world. A lot of my first photos that I entered, never really got good ratings, to no ratings at all. But over time, I looked, listened, observed winning photos and practiced in all the areas in which I was lacking, and believe me there were lots. Below, I have listed some of the things I have learned here on this forum and I would like to pass some of them on to you, and hope you fine them useful.......

..... the most important things I can suggest, is to practice, observe, pay attention to constructive criticism, read your camera's manual and read anything else you can get a hold of ! Photography is a practiced skill! If you wish to improve, and strive for that winning photo, you have to make the time and the effort.
